DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a celebration of Juneteenth for King County and City of Seattle employees!  \nJuneteenth\, which falls each year on June 19\, commemorates the end to slavery in the United States. It’s considered the oldest African American holiday. On June 17\, 2021\, it officially became a federal holiday. This year\, for the first time\, City of Seattle employees will get a paid holiday to celebrate the occasion. \nA joint group of City and County employees are planning a free event to honor Juneteenth on Monday\, June 20\, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Seward Park. The event\, open to employees and their families\, will focus on unity and fellowship and feature food\, music\, art\, and more! It will provide an opportunity to connect and celebrate. \nA special thanks goes out to the team of collaborators planning this event\, including RSJ Change Teams\, Affinity Groups\, and the King County Office of Equity and Social Justice in partnership with King County’s Black leaders. DESCRIPTION:Join other Seattle-based union members and Labor partners for an in-person workshop on April 2 to explore key historical events\, concepts\, and ideologies that underpin the current round of violence in Gaza\, and the occupied Palestinian territories. \nIn collaboration with MLK Labor Council\, this workshop will be an opportunity to bring your experiences\, thoughts\, and questions forward. \nPlease come prepared to participate\, ask questions\, and listen to each other — we will be using each other’s knowledge and inquiry to strengthen our own thinking around the context and the conflict. \nPlease note that the event is space limited. To provide both a safe and impactful experience\, we are capping this teach-in at 75 people. We acknowledge that unexpected life circumstances arise and just ask that you are mindful about registering for the event with commitment.
